At Bon Vivant, our rooms pay homage to Saint Lucia's rich floral culture, named after the island's renowned flower festivals.
La Woz, celebrated annually on Aug. 30, is one of two flower societies in Saint Lucia, alongside La Marguerite. These societies have historical roots in the island's colonial past, satirizing the royal family administration during the slavery era. La Rose and La Marguerite, once integral social structures, have evolved into primarily singing associations. Their Grande Fete, held on the feast days of St. Rose de Lima and St. Margaret Mary Alacocque respectively, features folk dances and months of nightly singing rehearsals.
The structured hierarchy of these societies reflects colonial socio-economic norms, with roles ranging from king and queen to judges, policemen, and professionals. The friendly rivalry between La Rose and La Marguerite culminates in elaborate performances, showcasing the island's vibrant floral heritage.
